This blog was started in 2011 by a group of Bangladeshi bloggers who blog primarily in English. Some were veterans of earlier blogs Drishtipat/Unheard Voices. Others had blogged in Somewherein and Sachal, but found those spaces unwelcoming to English language blogging.

We believe AlalODulal blog works best as a place for long-form opinion essays and analysis, not as a “breaking news” source.

We took the name of the blog from a song by Azam Khan. However, we want to emphasize that we are committed to being a platform representing gender, race, religious diversity– we do not see Alal/Dulal as both males, but rather imagine at least one of the two to be crossing between lines.

We have a zero tolerance policy for comments that have personal attacks, or inflammatory statements, and those comments will not be allowed. Please post civil, constructive comments. Many thanks.

Alal o Dulal
Azam Khan
Alal and Dulal
Their father
Is Haji Chand

From Chankharpool they pedal
Until they get home
Their father is Haji Chand

If Alal goes right
Dulal will go left
Father is exhausted
From searching all day

Where is Alal?
Where is Dulal?
Nowhere Nowhere Nowhere Nowhere

From Chankharpool they pedal
Until they get home
Their father
Is Haji Chand

If Alal is on the branch
Dulal is on the roof
A plague on our neighborhood
All day

Where is Alal?
Where is Dulal?
