The 1986 attack in Chittagong University, when the Islami Chhatra Shibir activists mercilessly beat, tried to gauze one eye and cut the leg tendon of the then ruling party student wing leader Abdul Hamid, brought Islami Chhatra Shibir to national lime light. The killing of Chittagong college Chhatra union leader Shahadat Hossain two years earlier and brutal killing of Rajshahi medical College Student leader Jamil Akhter Ratan two years later helped seal a violent image of Jamaat’s student front- Islami Chhatra Shibir. Despite this violent, unpopular and brutal image, Shibir grew at an amazing speed. Within several years of it’s establishment Shibir established it’s grip in numerous major educational institutes including two of three major Public Universities of Bangladesh. Shibir’s stronghold on rural students gave them the needed leverage to compensate for their lack of support among urban and female students.
The Raja Bazaar murder: M K Alamgir Delivers — but what?
The gruesome murder of TV journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi will be considered, undoubtedly, as one of the most sensational crimes in history of Bangladesh. Since that gruesome death at their Raja Bazaar apartment ten months ago, Government’s role in investigation of the murder was very questionable if not suspicious. While PM made her now infamous comment “We can not guard every bedroom“, home Minister, Police Chief, Police high ups, and RAB’s blabbermouth Commander Sohail — all made promises to apprehend the criminals within the next 48 hours and then for some unclear reason backed off from the promises and remained silent.
So our new Home Minister took charge and declared that Sagar-Runi case may be unearthed by Oct 10. After the declaration he spent time doing this
Shaon and our society
These days our national discourse — the facebook broadcasts, the print media junks — have made villain out of Shaon, the just widowed wife of deceased writer Humayun Ahmed.
Wife Shaon and publisher Mazhar are the villains in all Bangladeshi tabloids now a days. But these are the two people who were with Humayun during his last lap. Shaon’s struggle to save Humayun was en epic battle. Can anyone imagine how difficult it was for her to move to NY with two very young kids and a sick man who, all his life, is used to have everything done for him, including bringing a glass of water? Shaon had to start a family from scratch. Singlehandedly. Mazhar and some occasional local Bangladeshi vagabonds helped her out once a while.

It was interesting to see that Khaleda Zia could manage a nearly hour long audience with newly appointed Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz during the latter’s visit. With King Abdullah’s deteriorating health, Salman is most likely to be the next King. Nayef was not going to make it too long as crown prince anyway. Everybody knew that.
But this is not surprising given BNP’s historical links with the Kingdom. What was surprising was Khaleda’s hour long chat with Clinton at her home. During government talks, Hillary even did not use the napkins provided by GOB. Apparently she brought everything from USA, even water bottles. In Government meeting with Hasina/ Dipu moni Hillary did not touch anything. But when Hillary visited KZ, she ate rosogolla, drank coconut water etc. Hillary is a master of body language. আলালের নজরে – আওয়ামী গৃহযুদ্ধ
গত কয়েক সপ্তাহ ধরে আমরা বেশ কয়েকবার আওয়ামী লীগের অভ্যন্তরীণ লড়াই এর কথা এই ব্লগে উল্লেখ করেছি।
আজ আপনাদের জন্যে নিয়ে আসছি সেই লড়াই এর ব্লগ নমুনা।
আমার ব্লগ কোন “যুদ্ধপরাধিদের-বিচার-বিরোধি” ব্লগ নয়। সেই ব্লগে দেখলাম বিচারপতি শামসুদ্দিন চৌধুরী মানিক কে নিয়ে অনেক সমলোচনা। আর যেই সেই সমলোচনা নয়! একদম চোখের মধ্যে আঙ্গূল দিয়ে দেখিয়ে দাওয়া। বিচারপতি সাহেব নাকি লন্ডনে ৪টি বাড়ীর মালিক। এই ব্লগে ইংল্যান্ডের ল্যান্ড রেজিস্ট্রী থেকে নেওয়া দলিল দেখতে পাবেন, তবে এই শামসুদ্দিন চৌধুরী যে জজ সাহেবই, তার কোন প্রমাণ নেই এই মুহুর্তে।
তবে সবচেয়ে চমৎকার লাগলো একই ব্লগারের এই ব্লগটি পড়ে। এইখানে আপনারা দেখবেন এই লড়াইয়ের উৎস কোথা থেকে। বিচারপতি সাহেব তার অপব্যবহারের দায়ে নিজের দলের মধ্যেই অনেক শত্রু বানিয়ে ফেলেছেন। এটা নতুন কিছুই নয়। প্রায় প্রত্যেক সরকারই নিজের জাহাজ ঠিক এভাবেই ডোবায়।
