On May 6th, 2013, state security forces launched a large-scale operation to remove all protesters from Shapla Chattar in Motijheel. The nature of the action (after 2 am, reports of use of live ammunition) as well as accompanying events (cutting electricity to the city center, shutting down two TV stations) created an environment of paranoia, suspicion, and accusations regarding avoidable deaths of protesters. The government’s subsequent actions, including tone-deaf denials of deaths in press conferences, have further increased a volatile environment of mistrust and instability. Continue reading

Editor of Amarblog.com Sushanta Dasgupta is a die hard Awami League activist. I am very well aware of his activities through Facebook and Amarblog.com site for quiet a while. And he never tries to hide the fact that he is an Awami League activist. Last year he contested for a central committee position also. He loves his country Bangladesh like any of us, he loves his birth place Sylhet and his Alma mater SUST. I do not agree with many things he says and I dislike some of his comments on BNP leader Khaleda Zia or BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. But I never saw Sushanta campaigning against Islam. Continue reading
