2013, the year of corpses

2013 has ended, but instability has not ended.

This was the year of corpses.

This year will be marked as the year of blood, tears, oppression, fire, uncertainty.

The skeletons of the hundreds of workers killed in Rana Plaza are still in front of us. We still have not heard a word about compensating the families of the dead.

Not only that building has collapsed– for corruption and wrong policies, the whole country is collapsing.

How many corpses will collect due to conflict and revenge?

Most of those who died are outside the circle of those who cause the violence– the violence is between two majority landlord/jamindar parties.

This year showed us just how ferocious, how authoritarian could be the game of power.

How many people became crippled for life. How many people’s hopes and dreams were destroyed. How many people’s livelihoods were wiped out. How much resources, natural and built, were made extinct.

We can’t even begin to count the loss.

Don’t we have to ensure that such a year never again comes to Bangladesh?

There will come a day when the true owners of this country will again rise up to take control of the “country’s machine.”

They will surround the gangster looter occupiers.

That is the day the soul of the country will start to beat again.

Everything will start to change at last.

লাশের বছর ২০১৩

২০১৩ শেষ হচ্ছে, অশান্তির শেষ হলো না। লাশের বছর, বাংলাদেশের জন্য রক্ত কান্না নিপীড়ন আগুন অনিশ্চয়তার সময় হিসেবেই এই বছর চিহ্নিত থাকবে।

রানা প্লাজার সহস্রাধিক শ্রমিকের লাশের হাড়গোড়ের টুকরো এখনও আমাদের সামনে হাজির হয়। এখনও নিহতদের পরিবার ক্ষতিপূরণের ঘোষণাও শোনেন নাই। শুধু ভবন নয়, দুর্নীতি আর ভুল নীতির কারণে পুরো দেশই ধ্বসে পড়ার মুখে।

সংঘাত সহিংসতায় কতো লাশ জমলো? যারা নিহত হয়েছেন তাদের সংখ্যগরিষ্ঠই জমিদারী নিয়ে সংঘাতে লিপ্ত বিভিন্ন দলের বাইরের মানুষ। ক্ষমতার খেলা কতটা হিংস্র, কতটা স্বৈরতন্ত্রী হতে পারে সেটা দেখিয়েছে এই বছর।

কতো মানুষ সারাজীবনের জন্য পঙ্গু হলেন, কতো মানুষের জীবনের আশাভরসা শেষ হলো, কতো মানুষের জীবন জীবিকা বিপর্যস্ত হলো, বৃক্ষরাজিসহ কত সম্পদ বিনষ্ট হলো তার কোন হিসাব কখনো পাওয়া যাবে না।

এরকম বছর যেনো আর কখনো বাংলাদেশে না আসে তা নিশ্চিত করতে হবে না আমাদের?

যেদিন আসলেই দেশের মালিকেরা বেদখল হয়ে যাওয়া ‘দেশের মেশিন’ নিজের দখলে আনতে দুর্বত্ত দখলকারিদের ঘেরাও করবেন, সেদিনই দেশের প্রাণভোমরা মুক্তির পথ খুঁজে পাবে, দ্রুত পাল্টে যেতে থাকবে সবকিছু।
