Dear Mothers and Fathers,
Do you know what your child’s up to?

Look at the picture. A child is hitting another. I don’t want the parents of the child on the receiving end of the brutality to see this picture. May no parent ever have to see such brutality being inflicted upon their child.

Instead, I want the parents of the abusive child to see this picture. Every pixel of it. Do you recognize him? Are you having any difficulty recognizing him? Yes, it’s your son. Growing up quietly in your shadows to one day annihilate/terminate you.

I want his teachers to see this picture. What are they teaching him? I want our social scientists to see this picture. Where is our society headed? I want our politicians to see this picture. Will he serve your purposes? I want our writers – who write textbooks, fiction, poetry, our social workers, our researchers, our artistes, our singers, our actors to see the picture of this abusive child.

Do you understand your failings and failures? I want to see this picture as well, as a human being in this social structure. So that I understand my own failings and failures as well – as a parent, as a user of facebook, as a presenter, as a writer.

All of us have to assume responsibility for this boy and his barbaric act. It is our duty to nurture him, to make him humane. Either we will create a humane social structure. Or else, the social structure will bring us inhuman pain and suffering.

প্রিয় বাবা এবং মা, আপনার সন্তান কি করছে? জানেন নাকি?

ছবিটা দেখুন। এক পিচ্চি আরেক পিচ্চিকে মারছে।

যে পিচ্চি মার খাচ্ছে, আমি চাইনা তার বাবা মা এই ছবি দেখুক। নিজের সন্তানদের উপর এই ভয়াবহ বর্বরতা, কোনো বাবা মা-কে যেন দেখতে না হয়।

বরং যে কিশোরটি এত নির্মমভাবে আরেকটা কিশোরকে মারছে, আমি চাই সেই কিশোরের বাবা মা যেন ছবিটা খুঁটিয়ে খুঁটিয়ে দেখে।

চিনতে পারছেন নিজের সন্তানকে? চিনতে কি একটু কষ্ট হচ্ছে আপনার?

জ্বী, এটা আপনাদেরই ছেলে। তোমাকে বধিবে যে, গোকুলে বাড়িছে সে।

আমি চাই, যে শিক্ষক এই ছেলেটাকে পড়ায়, সেও যেন এই কিশোরটার ছবি দেখে। কি শিক্ষা দিয়েছেন একে?

আমি চাই, আমাদের সমাজ বিজ্ঞানীরা এই কিশোরকে দেখুন। কোথায় যাচ্ছে আমাদের সমাজ?

আমি চাই, রাজনীতিবিদরা এই কিশোরকে দেখুক। চলবে একে দিয়ে?

আমি চাই, যারা পাঠ্যপুস্তক লেখেন, যারা লেখক, যারা কবি, যারা সমাজকর্মী, যারা গবেষক, যারা শিল্পী, যারা গায়ক, যারা নায়ক, তারাও এই কিশোরকে দেখুক… নিজেদের ব্যর্থতা কি বুঝতে পারেন?

আমি চাই, আমি নিজেও এই সমাজের একজন মানুষ হিসেবে ছবিটা দেখি। যাতে বুঝতে পারি, একজন বাবা হিসেবে, একজন ফেসবুকার হিসেবে, একজন উপস্থাপক হিসেবে, একজন লেখক হিসেবে সর্বোপরি সমাজের একজন মানুষ হিসেবে আমি কতখানি ব্যর্থ?

এই হিংস্র কিশোরের দায় আমাদের প্রত্যেককে নিতে হবে।
এবং এই কিশোরকে মানুষ করার দায়িত্ব আমাদের সকলের।

হয় সমাজটাকে আমরা মানুষ করবো। নয়তো এই সমাজ নিজেই আমাদের অমানুষিক কষ্ট দেবে।
