Anu Muhammad: Even though they are rapidly escaping our attention, but the counting of crushed dead people is not over.
Nobody knows what the final number will be. We have seen many times before that after a fire or a building collapse, there is an active effort to disappear the numbers.

There are many calculations, we have to get at those numbers. We cannot let another incident of vanishing happen.

Their life was of disrespect, in death too they remain unacknowledged. If life was cruel, death was not natural either.

By dying, the garments workers gave the signal of that cruel life. Only through a mass death did they get the attention of mass media for a few days.

Those who have arrived to express anger, grief, and pain over the deaths of hundreds of workers, those who have come from from far to be in solidarity with pain– will they join the battle to change this life, so that innumerable people cannot be pushed to death like this?

দ্রুত মনোযোগের আড়ালে চলে যেতে থাকলেও পিষ্ট নিহত মানুষের সংখ্যাগণনা এখনও শেষ হয়নি।

সংখ্যা কত হবে তা এখনও কেউ জানে না। সংখ্যা কমাতে গিয়ে মানুষ নিশ্চিহ্ন করে দেবার দৃষ্টান্ত আগের সবগুলো অগ্নিকান্ড বা ভবনধ্বসেই পাওয়া যাবে।

অনেকভাবেই হিসাব হয়েছে, সেগুলো বের করতে হবে; একই ঘটনার পুনরাবৃত্তি এবার আর হতে দেয়া যাবে না।

যে জীবন অসম্মানের, মৃত্যুর পরও তা অস্বীকৃত। জীবন যদি নিষ্ঠুর হয়, মৃত্যুও স্বাভাবিক হয় না।

মৃত্যুর মধ্য দিয়ে গার্মেন্টস শ্রমিকেরা সেই নিষ্ঠুর জীবনেরই জানান দিচ্ছেন। একমাত্র গণমৃত্যুতেই তাঁরা কিছুদিনের জন্য মনোযোগ আকর্ষণ করতে পেরেছেন।

যাঁরা শত শত শ্রমিকের মৃত্যুতে ক্ষোভ ও বেদনা নিয়ে ছুটে এসেছেন বা দূর থেকে সমব্যথী হয়েছেন, তাঁরা সেই জীবন পরিবর্তনের লড়াইয়ে কি যোগ দেবেন না যা এরকম মৃত্যুতে ঠেলে দেয় অগুণতি মানুষকে?
