While Our Eyes Are Elsewhere

Despite putting people from all walks of life at risk, the recent violence and uncertainty in our country seem to have inconvenienced the local and foreign plunderers and invaders very little. On the contrary, in many instances because of the shifted attention it has even helped them. For many this time of uncertainty has been a blessing!

Thus we see, the work of signing deals and contracts that’ll result in long-term damages to the country has remained unchecked even in this time of national chaos. And in each case, the silence of the main “opposition” parties has indicated their consent. Plans are in place to rescue the bank-robbers from Hallmark; the swindlers of the share market scam remain sheltered; the lobbyists of sham organizations like Asia Energy are still active. The murderers and mafia behind crimes like the Towki murder remain hidden.

The project to destroy the Sunderbans is underway. With great joy the invaders are taking over our rivers, lands and hills. The Bay of Bengal is coming under the control of various foreign companies like ConocoPhillips.

The United States is meeting to discuss the security situation in Bangladesh – why else but to ensure that our country becomes a permanent home of terrorism?

Neither the owners nor the BGMEA are bothered anymore about compensating the victims of the garments factory fires. Neither the repressive measures by the government nor the hartals or the demonstrations by the opposition parties are to protest this inaction.

The television channels don’t have time for this, the newspapers have no space.

A time at which the people’s lives are at risk, is precisely the time for great assurance for the enemies of the people!!

দেশে যে এতো সহিংসতা আর অনিশ্চয়তা, তাতে দেশের সকল পর্যায়ের মানুষের জীবন বিপন্ন হলেও দেশি বিদেশি লুটেরা দখলদারদের এতে কোনো সমস্যা হচ্ছে না। বরং অনেকক্ষেত্রে মনোযোগ সরে যাওয়ায় তাদের সুবিধাই হচ্ছে। অনেকের জন্য এই অনিশ্চিত সময় আশির্বাদ!

সেজন্য দেখছি, দেশের হুলস্থুল অবস্থার মধ্যে দীর্ঘমেয়াদী ক্ষতি করে নানা চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরের কাজ ঠিকই চলছে। আর এগুলোতে ‘বিরোধী’ প্রধান দলগুলোর মৌনতাও সম্মতি হিসেবে কাজ করছে। হলমার্ক ব্যাংক লুটকারিদের উদ্ধার তৎপরতা চলছে, শেয়ারবাজার লুন্ঠনকারিরা নিরাপদে, এশিয়া এনার্জির মতো জালিয়াতদের লবিষ্টরা সক্রিয়। ত্বকি হত্যাকারীর মতো সন্ত্রাসী মাফিয়ারা আড়ালে।

সুন্দরবন ধ্বংসের প্রকল্প আয়োজন চলছে। নদী, জমি, পাহাড় দখলদাররা মহানন্দে দখল চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে। আর কনোকো ফিলিপসসহ নানা বিদেশি কোম্পানির দখলে যাচ্ছে বঙ্গোপসাগর।

যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বাংলাদেশের নিরাপত্তা নিয়ে সভা করছে, সন্ত্রাসের স্থায়ীভ’মি বানানোর পরিকল্পনা ছাড়া তা আর কী হবে?

পুড়ে যাওয়া গার্মেন্টস শ্রমিকদের ক্ষতিপূরণ প্রদানে মালিক বা বিজিএমইএ কারও এখন মাথাব্যথা নাই। সরকারের দমনপীড়ন বা বিরোধীদের হরতাল, সহিংসতা বা বিক্ষোভ মিছিল এদের কারও বিরুদ্ধে নয়!

এসব বিষয় নিয়ে টিভি চ্যানেলগুলোর সময় নাই, সংবাদপত্রের স্থান নাই।

যেসময়ে জনগণের জীবন বিপন্ন, সেসময়ই জনশত্রুদের মহা নিশ্চিন্ত সময়!!
