Now will you have time? Now will you finally listen?

We are not slave-owners, we are a manager country of slavery. Our labour force is slave labour, our farmers are debt slaves and serfs. The big capitals exploit the labour in their own countries while they plunder the labour from countries like ours. Our wealth, natural resources and manpower; Our bodies, language and history, all of it is subservient to small capitals working for big capitals. This international family of big and little brothers is called imperialism.

In a country where slavery is the major sector, everything there needs to be arranged around the business of slavery. Its laws, its politics, its institutions, its social life, culture, even its literature, dreams and aspirations are slavery friendly. This slavery is fueled by these structures, this killing-machine is inherent in its nature.

The economic policies are set up in such a way that the people, devoid of choice, are forced to sell their labour at rates that only befit slaves. So that the farmer doesn’t get the dues for his crops, so that the vicious cycle and conspiracy of microcredit keeps them forever dependent, so that the middle class can get their clothes-rice-services at an affordable rate; the state ensures this. The media keeps most under control here, while for the defiant few there are the RAB, hired-goons, and the military.

Whatever the youth of the middle-class may say, but our families are the beneficiaries of this system. This is a very old habit. This country was never one single class. We’ve always had racism, division between land-owners and peasants, division between high-born and low-born, division between Sanskrit-Farsi-English-Bengali.

Twice the country changed hands, but this society of divisive enmity didn’t change. The politics of change never found its footing here.

That is why I am not in favour of cheap humanistic protestations. The first duty is to change this slave economy into an economic system of production and equitable distribution. In order to keep the garments sector afloat and to make it self-sustaining there is no way but to change our industrial laws, labour laws, pay-scales and the justice system. The plunderers will go back to their countries after they are done plundering; but for those of us who’ll stay here it is for our sake that we need to start working to save our industries and our people.

There is only one way of avenging the murders of so many innocents: to hang the owners and the killing-machine with the same rope. Nothing would be gained if only one goes, it will regenerate itself from the other. Without punishing the politics and the justice system that make massacres like this one possible, all that we’ll have will be the petty bickering of the two ladies of the Government and the Opposition.

We don’t need that.

আমরা দাসমালিক না, আমরা দাসব্যবসার ম্যানেজার রাষ্ট্র। আমাদের শ্রমিক শ্রমদাস, কিষাণী ঋণদাস, কিষাণ ভূমিদাস। বড় পুজিঁবাদ নিজ দেশে শ্রমশোষণ করলেও আমাদের মতো দেশে করে শ্রমলুণ্ঠন। আমাদের সম্পদ, প্রকৃতি আর মানুষ; আমাদের দেহ, ভাষা, ইতিহাস সবই বড় পুঁজির খাতিরে ছোটো পুঁজির সেবায়েত। এই বড় ছোটো দুই ভাইয়ের আন্তর্জাতিক সংসারটার নাম সাম্রাজ্যবাদ।

দাস ব্যবসা যে রাষ্ট্রের প্রধান খাত, সেই রাষ্ট্রের সবকিছুকেই দাসব্যবসামুখী করে সাজাতে হয়। তার আইন, তার রাজনীতি, তার প্রতিষ্ঠান, তার সংস্কৃতি-সমাজ এমনকি তার সাহিত্য ও স্বপ্নও দাসব্যবসা-বান্ধবই হয়। এই দাসব্যবসা কাঠামোগত শক্তিতে চলে, এই মারণকল তার সহজাত।

যাতে নিরুপায় মানুষ যাতে দাসসুলভ দামে শ্রম বেচতে বাধ্য হয়, অর্থনীতির বিধিব্যবস্থা সেভাবে সাজানো হয়। যাতে কৃষক ফসলের দাম না পায়, যাতে ক্ষুদ্রঋণের চক্র আর চক্রান্ত তাদের পরনির্ভরশীল রাখে, যাতে মধ্যবিত্তরা সস্তায় চাল সেবা কাপড় পায়; রাষ্ট্র তার বন্দোবস্ত করে। এখানে অধিকাংশকে বশে রাখে মিডিয়া আর অল্পকতেক প্রতিবাদীর জন্য থাকে র‌্যাব–মাস্তান-মিলিটারি।

মধ্যবিত্ত তরুণ-তরুণীরা যাই বলুক, আমাদের পরিবার এই ব্যবস্থার বরকতভোগী। সুদীর্ঘকালের অভ্যাস। এদেশে এক জাতি কোনোদিন ছিল না। ছিল বর্ণভেদ, জমিদার-প্রজা ভেদ, আশরাফ-আতরাফ ভেদ, সংস্কৃত-ফারসি-ইংরেজি-বাংলার ভেদ।

দুইবার রাষ্ট্র বদলালো, এত ভেদাভেদ বিদ্বেষের সমাজটা একবারো বদলালো না। বদলের রাজনীতিটা দাড়ালো না।

আমি তাই পুতুপুতু মানবতার প্রতিবাদের পক্ষে নই। প্রথম কর্তব্য দাসব্যবসার অর্থনীতিকে উতপাদন আর সম-বিনিময়ের অর্থনীতিতে বদলানোর কাজ করা। দর্জিশিল্পকে টিকিয়ে রাখা এবং একে স্বয়ংস্বম্পূর্ণতা দেয়ার স্বার্থে শিল্প আইন, শ্রম আইন, মজুরিকাঠামো এবং বিচারব্যবস্থাকে বদলানো ছাড়া কিছুতেই কিছু হবার নয়। লুটেরারা লুট শেষে বিদেশে চলে যাবে; যারা থাকব তাদের স্বার্থেই শিল্প আর মানুষ বাঁচাতে নামতে হবে।

এত এত মানুষের নৃশংস খুনের বদলা একটাই: এক দড়িতে মালিক ও তার মারণকলের ফাঁসি। একটি গেলে লাভ নাই, অন্যটি নিজেকে পুণরুতপাদিত করে নেবে। যে রাজনীতি ও বিচারব্যবস্থা এই হত্যাযজ্ঞ সম্ভব করে, তার শাস্তি ছাড়া সবই আপা-ভাবীর পুটুরপাটুর। সেসবে আমাদের কাজ নাই।
